oil less compessers?

Hi all, Has anyone out there have experience compressing oxygen from medical concentraters. Can I use any oil less compresser? Do I need special tanks? If anyone has tried this please let me know how it worked for you. We live on an island and our tanks of oxygen here are very expensive. We are flame workers with a couple of GTTs.
Help us afford to glass blow.

My experience is with refilling SCBA (Self contained breathing apparratus) for fire fighters.

We have a large 4 stage compressor with very good filters and its water cooled. It produces air at a slow rate into our cascade system, although it would work fine on a single tank.

Tank size is dependant on you, obviously a larger tank last longer, a cascade system allows you to fill smaller tanks of lesser pressure. This is preferable consideriing the amount of time it takes to generate a full tank of air. The main concern is the amount of heat generated and other problems that come with high pressures and tanks. I cannot emphasize how clean of oil and dry the air must be, the compressor must be capable of this.

If you live on an island you may want to consider getting into the oxygen business. Generating it for medical and welding can be quite porifitable and will help to offset your compressor, electricity and maintenance cost.

I am doing torch blowing as well and it has allway's been a dream of mine to get a compresser ..How do you clean the air well enough to put through the torch. Why can't I get a filter for a hardwear store bought air compresser and fill my tank's ..Is that why it has to be oil less ..I want to make something that will make my torch run easyly off the air that I breath ..is this possable ?? Let's hear all about it ..

hi Chipper, i hope you realize the danger of mixing oil and oxygen. if you mix pure oxygen and oil you get boom! it sounds like you are using air not pure oxygen. forced air was the traditional way of lampworking. you could most likely use any compresser if you use just air.

thanks for the info, i did not know that compressing oxygen could generate heat. i will continue my research. if anyone has more knowledge please let me know . elfintom
